What we rekey, and how.

A rekey is when we re-pin the inside of your existing lock so the old keys no longer work and a new key does. No new hardware, no painted doors with mismatched knobs, just a fresh key. It's the right call after almost any change in who has access to your home or office.

Move-in rekeys

Standard recommendation for every home you buy. You don't know who has a copy of the existing key — the previous owner's contractor, their dog walker, their cleaner. We rekey every exterior lock to a new key in one visit, usually under an hour.

Multi-cylinder & whole-home rekeys

We rekey every exterior cylinder (front, back, garage entry, side gate, mailbox) to the same new key. One key opens everything. If you want different keys for different doors, we can do that too.

Tenant turnover for property managers

We run quick rekey programs for property managers — set up an account with us and we keep records of every cylinder, every key issued, every date. One invoice per month.

Mortise locks

Older buildings, premium homes, and many commercial buildings use mortise locks. We rekey them the same way — re-pin the cylinder rather than replace the whole lock. Most mortise hardware is built to last forever; rekeying preserves it.

Deadbolts & knob/lever combos

Most modern deadbolts (Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, Baldwin, Emtek) are standard rekey candidates. Knob/lever combo sets with thumb-turns rekey the same way — one key for both the knob and the deadbolt on the same door.

Keying alike — one key for everything

If you have a front door, a garage entry, and a back gate with different keys, we can rekey all three to use the same key. Same goes for ADUs, in-law units, or guest houses on the same property. The hardware doesn't change, just the pinning.

Restricted keyways

For higher security — short-term rentals, executive homes, commercial — we install restricted-keyway cylinders where keys can only be cut at registered locksmiths. Prevents anyone from copying the key at a hardware store.

Locked myself out of the office on a Sunday morning at Sierra Point. They picked up, were straightforward about timing, and got me back in without damaging the door. Will keep them on speed dial.

We had them set up a master key system across two floors of our office on the Genentech corridor. Thorough, professional, and the documentation they left us is exactly what facilities asked for.

Brand new house in Daly City. Wanted everything rekeyed and a smart lock installed on the front door. They walked me through options honestly — never pushed me into the most expensive thing.

Locked out? Here's what to do.

A few seconds of calm makes a real difference. Here's what works, what doesn't, and what to expect from us the moment you call.

  1. 01

    Don't force the lock.

Damaged locks cost more to replace than the lockout itself. Step away from the door — we'll handle it.

  2. 02

    Call us at (628) 250-3419.

Tell us your address and what's locked. We'll quote you on the phone — no surprises when we arrive.

  3. 03

    Get to a safe spot.

Car lockout in a parking lot or on the street? Stay near a well-lit area. A building lobby is fine too.

  4. 04

We'll roll out as soon as we can.

We'll confirm an ETA with you by call or text before we leave. No ghosting, no mystery wait.

(628) 250-3419

Outside our listed hours? Call anyway — we respond to emergency calls outside hours when we can. We'll be honest about timing the moment you call.

Rekey Service FAQ

Straight answers, no fine print.

Questions we get a lot for rekey service jobs. If yours isn't here, call — we'd rather have a quick conversation than guess wrong.

What's the difference between rekey and replace?
Rekey: same lock hardware, new pinning, new key. Replace: new hardware entirely. Rekey is faster and cheaper and you keep the look and feel of your existing locks. Replace only makes sense if the hardware is broken or you specifically want to upgrade.
Can you rekey if I lost the key entirely?
Yes. We can open most locks non-destructively, then rekey the cylinder once we have it apart. No need to have the original key in hand.
Do you do keyed-alike on multiple doors?
Yes — that's one of the most common requests. Front door, back door, garage entry, side gate all keyed to one key. We do it in one visit.
How many cylinders does my house have?
Most single-family homes have between 2 and 6: front door, back/side door, garage entry, sometimes a basement door, sometimes a mailbox lock. Multi-unit and ADU properties have more. We count and confirm before we start.
What if my lock is older or unusual?
Most pre-1990 locks rekey just fine — pin tumbler designs haven't changed much. The hardest cases are very old mortise locks from the early 1900s and a handful of proprietary commercial cylinders. We'll tell you on the phone if we need to inspect first.
Can I see my old keys destroyed in front of me?
Yes — and we recommend it. We don't keep keys after a rekey. We cut your new key, hand it to you, and destroy or hand back the old ones in front of you.
Do property managers get an account or discount?
We don't run discount tiers. Property managers can set up an account with monthly billing, a single point of contact, and documented records of every cylinder we rekey. The convenience is the value, not the price.
How long does a typical rekey take?
A single-door rekey is usually 15-25 minutes. A full-home rekey of 4-6 doors usually wraps in under an hour. We'll be honest if your hardware will take longer.
